My wife and I had plans to fly to California this summer to visit her family. We reside in NY and we weren’t comfortable with the idea of being on a plane for 6 hours with our infant during a global pandemic so we decided to drive across the country. We were excited to find this RV a few days before we wanted to start our journey. It was fairly priced and definitely spacious enough for 2 adults and an infant. Booking and initial communication with Ross, the owner of the RV, was simple and easy. Pick up location was 3 hours away from NY and pick up time was mid afternoon. So it made sense for us to pack our car with all of our things and start our drive for CA from where we would pick up the RV. When we met Ross in person he told us the RV DID NOT have proper plumbing and it DID NOT have clean running water. Meaning we could not use the shower, or any of the sinks. There was literally NO water tank. He failed to mention any of this in the listing. He also knew we were coming from NY to pick up the RV. Therefore, he had plenty of time to tell us about these issues. He claimed he discovered these issues as he was prepping the RV and that it happened abruptly (looking back on it now definitely sounded like he was lying). However, we had already booked the RV and drove all that way with all of our things to meet Ross. So we decided to make the best of it and continue on with our road trip. We soon discovered it was a MAJOR inconvenience to not have proper plumbing and clean running water. Having to do something simple like washing dirty dishes or wash our infants bottles took longer than necessary, cutting into our travel time/time to enjoy outdoors. These inconveniences were especially hard for my wife who has one kidney and needs to frequently use the restroom. Because of these issues we decided it would be best to stay at RV camp sites along the way to CA, which would cost us even more money, but we would be able use the restrooms/showers (Side note: if you plan on staying at any RV camp sites to access their restrooms/showers, call before booking online. Unfortunately for us, one of the camp sites we booked online closed all of the restrooms/showers as a precaution due to Covid19). Despite all of that, Ross seemed nice so we gave him the benefit of the doubt. He even told us he would cover the camp site costs and be flexible with the return date (we have that agreement in writing) considering he would need at least 2-3 weeks to fix the plumbing and water system before renting it out again. We started our journey and a few hours into our drive it started to rain. Shortly after, my wife discovered the queen-size bed, located in the back, was wet. The water from the rain was leaking in wetting the bed, pillows, blankets and everything we had inside one of the bed side cabinets. We immediately told Ross who seemed surprised and blamed it on the wind. There were 3 other beds to sleep on so my wife and I didn’t make a big deal out of it, but that too was another inconvenience to add to the list. Fast forward, we’re in California and we planned our stay for just about one month. Our return date was approaching and I tried multiple times to reach Ross about confirming a return date. When I finally got a hold of him on the phone, it was two days before the actual return date on paper, he was rude and told me he needed the RV back by the actual return date because someone else had already booked the RV for that same week (so was he lying about fixing the plumbing/water? Did he tell the people who booked the RV about these issues? Was the RV really booked for that same week or did he no longer want to be flexible with the return date?). His tone was cold and negative, the complete opposite from when we initially met him. When we brought back the RV, in time for him to allegedly prep it for his next booking that same week, he did not want to do the final walk thru. In fact he told me we should do the walk thru the following day. Which was strange given I was already returning the RV since he was the one who rushed me to bring it back. We live 3 hours away from where we met Ross. We were not going to drive home and then drive back to do the final walk thru. I’d also like to mention that I washed and cleaned the RV before returning it. Maybe that was not required, regardless he did not thank me nor did he even ask about our drive. Very strange! Aside from our experience with Ross, my family and I enjoyed our drive across the country. We would do it again! But we will never again rent an RV from Ross.
