Come tour Alaska in our spacious and reliable Majestic RV. With the RV comes Bear Spray, and isobutane Fuel (because no one should pay $50 for canisters that you can't fly with).A traditional motorhome with the self-contained features you expect including a power generator. We love how much storage space has it has in the outside compartments- it's perfect for travelers with luggage.Picking UP/Dropping OFF THE Vehicle:
Pick up will be at our home. We live 16 minutes from the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. An Uber/Lyft/taxi ride is about $20-30 one way from the airport to the vehicle pick up location. We are excited for you to explore the Last Frontier!
No smoking, vaping, drinking, or drugs in or around the vehicle and no pets please. Please return not excessively dirty and with a full tank of gas to avoid any fees. This vehicle is not allowed to be taken on the gravel/dirt roads.Thank youWas ist inbegriffenFresh linens, cookware, utensils, storage containers, and fresh waterEmpfehlungenHere is a list of some of our favorite things in case it's helpful to you:Anchorage:
-run, walk, or rent bikes and go on the Coastal Trail, you can also bike to Kincaid Park from the Coastal Trail. This is where you have a good chance of seeing moose.
-Go to the Eagle River Nature Center. There are flat trails here and a beautiful view of the mountains and a lake. Parking is $5.
-hike Eagle and Symphony Lakes (South Fork Trail)-it's longer, but not much elevation gain.
-Go to Point Woronzof Park. It’s right by the coast and huge airplanes fly right above it. You can also access the Kincaid/Coastal trail here to walk.
Anchorage food:
Be aware Alaskan restaurants are very expensive:
Local places with good prices:
-Hula Hands: dive buildings: delicious Hawaiian food at a great price for Alaska
-Alaskan Burger and Brew: delicious burgers and salads at reasonable prices
Touristy restaraunts with good atmosphere:
-49th State: nice outdoor seating and atmosphere
-Snow City Cafe-popular little cafe known for breakfast as well
-Moose’s Tooth- Alaska’s most famous pizza joint and had a great ambience. It can get crowded at night and be a two hour wait even if you call in. But if you plan ahead you could get takeout. If you don’t want to wait a long time BearTooth (another location that also has a theater where you can be served during movies) has the same food and usually much faster takeout and sit down times.
-Humpy’s-known for their fish and chips
Hatcher Pass: (1 hour 15 minutes from Anchorage)
a gorgeous area you will be so happy you explored.
-Hike April Bowl-this is really popular and an easier hike.
-Hike Skyscraper - this is on the other side of the road to April Bowl
-hike Marmot Mountain-this is also near the other hikes and a little harder
-consider visits to reindeer and musk ox farms in Palmer
Glacier View: (2 hours from Anchorage)
-hike Lion's Head
-explore the Matanuska Glacier. You can do a self guided tour or pay for a guided tour where you get to go on the glacier.
-raft down the Matanuska River. It's very calm and pretty.
Girdwood: (40 minutes from Anchorage)
-Virgin Creek Falls hike-3 minute hike to a waterfall.
-Winner Creek Trail-flat hike in the woods. It’s pretty but you don’t get an outlook view. .
-Hike Mount Alyeska, you can also take a tram up and down.
Seward: (2 hours 15 minutes from Anchorage)
-Hike Mt. Marathon- this is an intense hike, but amazing views. I wouldn’t do this hike if it’s really rainy because the trail would be slippery.
-Day cruise in Kenai Fjords National Park to see glaciers and wildlife. There are lots of good companies to choose from and you usually can book close to the date you'll go. I'd book on a day with good weather.
-Exit Glacier-this is a short easy hike to see a glacier up close.
-Harding Ice Field hike- an extension of the Exit Galcier trail- a little more intense and will take longer, but you see an incredible ice field that stretches for miles
-Do a fishing charter and get lots of fish.
Kenai River/Cooper Landing: (2 hours from Anchorage)
-raft down the river with an excursion company. You might want to book this ahead. I’m not sure if they get sold out. Check the weather forcast before you go.
-hike Slaughter Gulch. This is my favorite hike in Alaska. Even if you just take about 25 minutes you’ll get to an incredible outlook. If you hike 45 minutes you’ll get to even a higher pretty review. Or you can go to the top. I went there last week and did it pregnant so you can too :) on All Trails the parking lot seems really small so check your location and you probably are in the right spot. There’s also a larger parking lot that you can look up as well.
-fish on the Kenai or Russian River. Go to adfg.alaska.gov for daily fish counts to see where are good spots to fish. Can fish from shore or book a boat to get you to less crowded areas.
Denali: (4 hours from Anchorage)
-take the bus into the park to see wildlife. Make sure to book tickets in advance. It's a six hour bus ride each way. You can also backpack here with a permit.
-rafting on the Nenana River
-Visit Talkeetna on your way up. It’s a fun little town. If you go to the visitor center, you can learn about people who climbed Denali
-take flights from Tlakeetna to see the mountain and land ona glacier
Whittier: (1 hour 15 min. from Anchorage)
-to get into Whittier you have to go through the tunnel. It’s open 30-45 past each hour and cost $13
-hike Portage Pass Trail-this is a very popular hike, even if you just go the first mile, it gets you to see the Portage Glacier and stunning views.
-hike Horse Tail Falls- easy, pretty hike. Watch out for bears.
-rent kayaks and explore the ocean
-on the way to Whittier is the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center on Portage. If you want to see wildlife you'll for sure see it here. Bears, musk ox, buffalo, moose, reindeer, and more.
Soldotna/Kenai:
-Talon Air - amazing bear tour flights
-Fish Kenai River
Homer:
-Rent Paddle boards to take around bay
-Take water taxi to hike Grace Ridge or ferry to Seldovia
-Get fish and chips at AK Fish Fryers
