Gather Equipment: Load leveling hitch, trailer ball, hitch pin, wrench, and safety chains. 1. Attach the Load Leveling Hitch Position Tow Vehicle: Back your vehicle up to the trailer and raise the trailer’s coupler with the tongue jack to align it with the hitch ball. Secure the Coupler: Lower the coupler onto the hitch ball and lock it in place with the pin and clip. Attach the Spring Bars: Lift the trailer tongue slightly to relieve tension, then secure the spring bars into the hitch brackets. Use a bar lift tool, if necessary. 2. Adjust the Load Distribution Check the Vehicle’s Ride Height: The tow vehicle should sit level or close to its original ride height after the load leveling hitch is installed. Adjust the Tension: If needed, tighten or loosen the spring bars to balance the load. The goal is for the vehicle to sit level, with no sag in the rear. 3. Safety Chains & Sway Control Attach Safety Chains: Cross the chains under the hitch and attach them securely to the tow vehicle. Install Sway Control: If using a sway control system, attach it according to the manufacturer’s instructions. 4. Final Check Inspect Connections: Ensure the coupler is locked, spring bars are secure, safety chains are attached, and electrical connections are working. Adjust Brake Controller: Make sure the brake controller in your vehicle is set correctly for the trailer. 5. Towing Drive Cautiously: Once everything is set, drive carefully, keeping a steady speed and maintaining proper stopping distance. 6. Unhitching Park on Level Ground: After arriving at your destination, raise the tongue with the jack, relieve tension on the spring bars, and remove them. Uncouple the Trailer: Detach the trailer from the hitch ball and lower it to the ground.
