This is the hidden Bamboo Forest Hike on Maui is one of the island’s most enchanting and otherworldly adventures. Located along the famed Hana Highway, this hike takes you through a towering forest of bamboo that sways and creaks in the wind, creating an atmosphere unlike anywhere else in Hawaii. The trail begins with a gentle descent through lush bamboo, crossing small streams, where sunlight filters through the tall, dense stalks, casting shimmering green patterns all around. The soundscape changes too, as the wind rattles through the bamboo, creating a rhythmic, almost meditative soundtrack. The foot path guides you through the heart of this magical grove, allowing for easy passage even in wetter conditions. The air is cool and fresh, and the sense of isolation is profound. It feels as if time slows down inside the bamboo, giving you space to breathe, reflect, and connect with nature.
The 1st of 3 waterfalls is suitable for a quick swim excellent photo opportunity, before scaling a wet muddy rock
Face. There are ropes in place for those who need a bit of assistance.
Our next waterfall is nature’s playground
The huge pool at the bottom of a 40 ft waterfall is wonderful for playing on the rope swing and jumping off the tall rocks into the deep pool below.
To continue from here you must climb a 10 foot ladder up a sheer rock face . Once completed you will
Have the perfect opportunity for a selfie at the top
Of a waterfall
You will
Pass several small pools and various fruit trees with the smell
Of Ginger in the air.
Before jumping into the stream
For a 50 yard swim
At the end of the trail, your reward is the inspiring 80-foot cascade spilling down a sheer lava rock cliff into a misty pool for swimming and cliff jumping It’s the perfect finale to a hike that’s as much about the journey as the destination. The Bamboo Forest Hike is approximately 4 miles round trip and moderately challenging. Bring water, sturdy shoes, and be prepared for muddy spots. It’s a must-do for anyone visiting Maui who wants to experience the island’s raw, mystical beauty.

Maui Adventure Vans came about organically by my love for camping and becoming a new father. When my son was born, I built my first camper van, so he could be safe & comfortable while enjoying the beauty of a Hana sunrise with waves crashing on the rocky cliffs at Kipahulu My son named this first van Willie after meeting country Music legend Willie Nelson in Paia town. Time passed, a friend or a relative would ask to borrow Willie to go explore. Eventually friends of friends would come and want to take Willie to enjoy our beautiful island. So began Maui Adventure Vans in 2018, we currently have 5 camper vans of different sizes and custom build outs. we offer guided adventure hikes to hidden waterfalls and custom snorkel tours for our guests. We have put together an extensive list of public and private camp grounds and even provide the location to a few special free spots We are fortunate to live in Hawaii on our beautiful island of Maui. Im happy to share ideas and provide planning tips to help ensure your Maui vacation is one to remember always. Feel free to contact us anytime with questions concerns or special requests Mahalo Steven Butler
