Another trail found in Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, we love the Echo Canyon Trail because it takes you through some beautiful scenery and right to the edge of Moss Lake. 

Pedernales Falls Trail

Lastly, we must mention the Pedernales Falls Trail. This trail is best hiked during the spring or fall when the falls are actually running. However, it is a nice enough hike no matter when you head out.

Hoping to pack the kayak or paddle board and go for a paddle? There are plenty of places to do so. Here are some of our favorites. 

Blanco State Park

A mile long section of the Blanco River offers a prime paddling opportunity to visitors of Blanco State Park. Don’t have a kayak of your own? You can rent one in the park!

Guadalupe River State Park

This park is the starting point for the awesome 5-mile Guadalupe River State Park Paddling Trail. That said, there are a number of other options around if you prefer a shorter paddle!

Looking for some classic Texas comfort food? Billy Gene’s Restaurant in Kerrville might be exactly the spot for you. This place serves up the best chicken fried steak we’ve ever had the privilege of trying, and the meatloaf, fried chicken, and hamburger steak aren’t too shabby either.

Best of all, this place offers both indoor and outdoor seating and is 100% kid-friendly, meaning you can bring the whole family. 

Comfort Pizza

Another fantastic family-friendly spot, Comfort Pizza is located in the adorable town of Comfort and serves up some phenomenal sourdough crust pizza. All crust is made in-house and it is to die for. Just make sure you call the day before to reserve your crust!

High’s Cafe and Store

Also located in Comfort, High’s Cafe and Store serves up gourmet coffee and sandwiches as well as some excellent baked goods. The atmosphere is laid-back and welcoming, meaning it fits into any Texas getaway just perfectly!

Don’t worry if you can’t make it to Old Tunnel State Park as we mentioned earlier, because Austin gives visitors another opportunity to see Texas bats. During the summer, Congress Bridge is home to a huge number of bats that fly out from under the bridge each evening at sunset. This creates quite the spectacle and is a wonderful memory to boot. 

McKinney Falls State Park

Did you know there’s a state park in Austin? McKinney Falls State Park is an absolutely gorgeous natural area that is located right next to the city. This is awesome because it makes mixing the great outdoors with a big city adventure a cinch.
