A home, but on wheels: When you think about it, an RV is a pretty amazing invention. Just because they’re amazing, though, doesn’t mean that these tiny homes couldn’t use some improvements here and there. After all, most motorhomes and travel trailers are not made to be lived in. Their internal components like their RV water heater systems weren’t made with long-term or frequent use in mind. The good news? Many of these things are easily fixable, leaving you with a rig that couldn’t be any more comfortable.

Here are some of our favorite RV upgrades that we know you will love too.

Tankless RV Water Heater

RV Water

Nobody enjoys running out of hot water in the middle of a shower. For this reason, many RVers have the “navy shower” down to an art. Others simply choose to use campground facilities. There is, however, an upgrade that will allow you and your family to get by without ever visiting a campground bathhouse or taking the infamous short shower. This upgrade comes in the form of a tankless water heater, an amazing little gadget that literally heats water on demand.

Installing a tankless water heater means no more turning on a heater and waiting for the water to warm up. It also means you will never run out of hot water while doing dishes or taking a shower again. This is an incredible upgrade that we recommend to every RV owner.

New Locks

Did you know that many RVs come from the factory with locks that match those of other RVs? While most RVers are nice people, and you probably won’t ever have any problems with people using their keys to access your things, there’s no reason not to play it safe with a new set of locks.

Switching out your locks for a better set is an inexpensive and easy DIY project that will give you peace of mind during future trips. Add in an electronic lock and you can leave your keys at inside!

LED Lighting

Have you ever been out boondocking and run out of battery power? It isn’t very much fun at all. Fortunately, with good conservation skills, this situation can be avoided.

One of the very best ways to conserve electricity is to replace your light bulbs with LED lights. While these bulbs are more expensive, they last much longer. Moreover, they run brighter, don’t heat up the RV, and they use less electricity. This is one investment that is well worth making, in our opinion.

Vent Fan

RV ventilation

If your RV didn’t come equipped with a vent fan, it is high time you install one yourself. These awesome fans are perfect for cooling the rig down on a hot day, and since they require so little in the way of power, they can even be run on battery power alone. Obviously, this makes a vent fan an ideal tool for summer boondocking. However, these nifty gadgets come in handy even when boondocking is not a part of your plan.

By using these ideas and adding a few of your own, you will be living in style in no time at all. Have you added an upgrade to your rig? Please share in the comments!
